The Atlas Mountains and Southern Morocco (4 Days)
DAY 1: Ouarzazate – Dades Gorges – Todra (or Todgha) Gorges
Embark on a 4×4 journey to the Atlas Valley with the stunning Todra (or Todgha) Gorges as our destination. We’ll pass by the picturesque lake, palm groves, and Skoura’s kasbahs before continuing on the road towards El Kelâa des M’Gouna, a charming village located at the junction of the M’Goun and Dades Valleys. From there, we’ll take the Valley of Roses track, which will lead us to Bou-Thahrar, passing through Ait Saîd, Tourbist, and Tamalout. We’ll take a walk in the Oued M’Goun before visiting the kasbah of the Glaoui Ait-Youl on the edge of the Valley of Dadès. You’ll be able to admire the magnificent Atlas Valley landscapes and kasbahs as we journey towards the Dades Gorges. We’ll return to Tinghir and Boumalne before taking a short walk in the impressive Todra (or Todgha) Gorges. We’ll stay the night at a beautiful guest house, where dinner will be served.
DAY 2: Todra (or Todgha) – Zagora via N’Kob
After breakfast, we’ll explore the Tinghir palm grove, which spans over 15km, and the Jewish quarter, featuring traditional adobe architecture. We’ll then proceed to Tinghir city before departing for Zagora, passing through the Djebel Saghro and the villages of Aklim and Iknioun, and then reaching the Tizi-n-Tazazert pass. We’ll then head to N’Kob before continuing our journey to Tansikht and Zagora, where we’ll stay the night at a Riad.
DAY 3: Zagora – Dunes of Chegaga via M’Hamid
Today, we’ll travel from Zagora to M’Hamid, stopping at Tamgroute to visit a green pottery factory. The road will become narrower, and sandy landscapes will soon appear. After passing through Tagounite and Ouled Driss, we’ll stop for lunch in M’Hamid at a nomadic tent bivouac and enjoy a 1-hour camel ride. We’ll then continue on a 4×4 through the sandy track towards the Great Dunes of Chegaga, where we’ll enjoy the sunset and spend the night under a nomadic tent.
DAY 4: Dunes of Chegaga – Ouarzazate
We’ll depart from the Dunes of Chegaga towards Ouarzazate by taking the track between the Erg of Chegaga and the dry bed of the Draa, passing by the lake Iriqui and Foum Zguid before continuing on the road via Taznakht. We’ll stop to admire the local carpets before returning to your hotel in Ouarzazate, marking the end of your journey to discover the Atlas Valley and southern Morocco.
