Ait Ben Haddou: Explore the Famous Ksar (1/2 Day)
We will meet you in the morning at your chosen hotel or meeting point and proceed towards the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, located north of Ouarzazate. This half-day excursion from Ouarzazate allows ample time to explore the site.
Ait Ben Haddou served as a vital trading post on the commercial route linking ancient Sudan to Marrakesh via the Dra Valley and the Tizi-n’Telouet Pass. Since 1987, the village has been protected by UNESCO, recognizing its cultural and historical significance.
During the visit, you will have the opportunity to gain insights into Berber culture, learn about southern Moroccan architecture, and witness the unique pre-Saharan adobe construction techniques. The community areas of the village include a mosque, a public square, grain threshing areas outside the ramparts, a fortification with a loft at the top, a caravanserai, and two cemeteries (Muslim and Jewish). The Sanctuary of the Saint Sidi Ali also adds to the charm of the village.
